East Kalimantan Bappeda Holds IKI-JET Project Evaluation: Strengthening Commitment & Synergy to Realize a Just Energy Transition!
The Head of the East Kalimantan Bappeda held a meeting with GIZ representatives from Jakarta and AREPO Consultants who are GIZ's independent consultants in the context of mid-evaluation of the IKI-JET collaboration project which will take place in 2023, Wednesday (18/6).
The discussion held at the East Kalimantan Bappeda Office was interactive and constructive, discussing the progress of project implementation until mid-2025, including challenges in the field and potential cross-sector synergies. The Head of East Kalimantan Bappeda welcomed this evaluation as momentum to realign field activities with regional needs. Support from the IKI-JET project is very helpful in strengthening clean energy planning capacity and the integration of social justice aspects in the transition.
Furthermore, the IKI-JET Evaluator Team also had the opportunity to discuss directly with the Head of Bappeda for East Kalimantan Province in the Head of Bappeda Meeting Room. During the meeting, the Head of Bappeda, Yusliando, conveyed the importance of post-project program continuity, as well as the need to ensure that the energy transition approach does not only focus on technical aspects, but also includes empowering local communities. The Head of East Kalimantan Bappeda hopes that this collaboration will not only stop at the project phase. There should be a strong institutional and policy legacy as a result. East Kalimantan must be able to be an example of how the energy transition can take place in a fair and contextual way with local wisdom.
Head of Economic and Natural Resources, Wahyu Gatut Purboyo said that this just energy transition program is in line with the direction of low carbon development and the target of East Kalimantan as a green province. This mid-term evaluation is an important milestone for measuring achievements and adjusting implementation strategies until the end of the cooperation period, as well as strengthening joint commitment towards inclusive and sustainable green development.
Through this discussion forum, Bappeda Kaltim reiterates commitment to being an active partner in implementing the IKI-JET project, while maintaining the direction of regional development policy so that it is in line with the global agenda for handling the climate crisis.
From this discussion it is hoped that it can strengthen synergy between parties and become the basis preparation of strategic steps forward for the successful implementation of the project until the end of the cooperation period.
