Public Discussion on RUED Support by the Regional Government of East Kalimantan to Achieve Energy Transition Targets
Bappeda Prov. East Kalimantan, represented by the Head of Economics and Natural Resources, Mr. Gatut Wahyu Purboyo, attended the Public Discussion of the General Regional Energy Plan (RUED) in the Swissbell Hotel meeting room.
-
This discussion was organized by the Secretariat General of the National Energy Council in collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, GIZ lndonesia, and IESR through the CASE program with the theme "RUED Support by the Kalimantan Regional Government to Achieve Energy Transition Targets" as a form of regional government commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
-
Given the situation that many regions still depend on their economies on fossil energy resources, Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE) Indonesia feels it is necessary to support DEN in assisting the Provinces in achieving the targets set in the RUED.
-
The energy transition towards clean energy sources could have a significant economic impact on coal-producing regions in Indonesia. On the positive side, the energy transition can open up new opportunities for regional economies through investment in clean energy sources and environmentally friendly technologies. However, on the other hand, the energy transition can also affect regional economies differently, especially in terms of the loss of jobs and local livelihoods in the regions, if carried out without strategic and comprehensive planning or governance.
-
It is hoped that this discussion will produce recommendations for clean energy policies, which will be more effective in promoting clean and renewable energy. and supporting investment and use of renewable energy sources.
-
It is hoped that an energy transition strategy can help coal producing regions adapt to the energy transition and find alternative sources of sustainable income. This strategy could include the development of new employment opportunities in clean energy and related sectors, as well as training and skills development programs for workers negatively impacted by the energy transition.
-
Public awareness and understanding of the importance of the energy transition and its impact on the local economy. This could trigger increased public and private sector participation in the energy transition and promote broader support for RUED implementation.
