Development of a Gender and Children Data System to support the Acceleration of Gender Mainstreaming

Samarinda, (8/09/2020). In order to fulfill the need for disaggregated data based on gender and age groups, the Department of Population, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (DKP3A) of East Kalimantan Province is holding an online Gender and Child Data System Development (SIGA) Webinar.

Present at this activity was the head of the Social Welfare sub-sector of Bappeda, East Kalimantan Province, H. Andrie Asdi, SH and Staff via the zoom meeting application.

This activity was opened by the Head of the East Kalimantan Province KP3A Service, Hj. Halda Arsyad is also a resource person. In his speech, Halda said that gender and children's data is a basic element for the implementation of PUG and Mainstreaming of Children's Rights (PUHA), for this reason the Ministry is building a Gender and Children's Data System (SIGA).

The aim of SIGA is to be able to collect data from various sectors and provide up to date and accurate information on gender and child disaggregated data. It is hoped that each Regional Apparatus can support and fill in indicator data and reports in accordance with the duties and functions of each Regional Apparatus.

Gender and children data can help decision makers to identify differences (conditions and development) in the conditions of men and women including children, evaluate the impact of development interventions on men and women, and can identify problems, develop options and choose the most effective options for the benefit of men and women that are responsive to the problems of the needs of men and women.

As stated by Adrie in his report, the collection and processing of gender and child disaggregated data in each OPD can be realized well supported by the availability of accurate data and information. In developing the SIGA application, 1 composite indicator is needed that reflects gender and children's rights. This is used to measure the success of development across sectors related to the protection of women and children.

It is hoped that each Regional Apparatus will form a team to manage Gender and Child Data based on the Governor's Decree.
