Synchronization of Community Development Programs with the East Kalimantan Regional Development Plan

Balikpapan, 11/06/2024 – Agus Taswanto, S.T., M.Ling., was present as a resource person in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme "Realizing Synchronization of Community Development and Empowerment Programs (PPM) in Mineral and Coal Mining Business Activities with the Regional Development Plan of East Kalimantan Province" by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) East Kalimantan Province. This activity is part of efforts to prepare a blueprint for the development and empowerment of PPM communities for the 2025-2029 period.

On this occasion, Agus Taswanto conveyed the importance of the link between regional development planning documents and the 8 main pillars of the PPM program. These pillars include: education, health, real income or employment levels, economic, social and cultural independence, environment, community institutions, and infrastructure.
In his presentation, it was stated that the strategic issues listed in the 2024-2026 Regional Development Plan (RPD) are very relevant to community development and empowerment, including increasing the competitiveness of human resources, accelerating economic transformation and inclusive economic growth, increasing infrastructure accessibility and connectivity, and improving the quality of the environment.

In the forum, Agus Taswanto underlined the importance of East Kalimantan's efforts, which currently rely heavily on the coal sector, to shift towards a more sustainable economic sector. Recognizing dependence on coal, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government is now focusing on carrying out economic transformation by slowly starting to shift from an extractive-based economy to a more value-added manufacturing sector. This transformation is expected to improve community welfare and preserve the environment.

Furthermore, Agus also conveyed future plans for the economic foundation of East Kalimantan which will rely more on the processing or manufacturing industry. As part of the innovation, Agus proposed developing a geospatial-based PPM application to make it easier to synchronize PPM programs with regional development planning documents. This application is expected to speed up synchronization between programs, both between companies and between company programs and regional planning documents. Apart from that, this application will also be equipped with features for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the PPM program.

With this effort, it is hoped that community empowerment programs related to mining business activities can be better integrated with regional development plans so that they can provide benefits, thereby having a sustainable positive impact on the community and environment in East Kalimantan.
