3._data_spasial_bandungStarting from the plan to develop and stabilize the condition of spatial data in East Kalimantan, an Orientation Study led by the Head of the Division Infrastructure & Regional Development Bappeda East Kalimantan Province Ir. H. Salman Lumoindong, MM along with staff, as well as staff in the Spatial Planning Division of the Provincial Public Works Department. East Kalimantan is an effort to get experience input from provinces that are considered successful in starting the first steps in managing their spatial data. It is planned that in 2012, East Kalimantan Province will strengthen spatial data management in a structured manner to meet agreed operational standards with the main focus being institutional strengthening.

This institutional strengthening will of course begin with the preparation of a road map for developing East Kalimantan spatial data. This Road map is expected to be able to review and provide direction for spatial data development based on existing conditions, activities that have been carried out previously, as well as future development plans to create a uniform base map that can be used by various sectors of interest.

Several important things that need to be underlined as a result of this activity study are:

1. In managing spatial data, a complete understanding (one data) is needed that the use of standard, uniform, valid, accurate and valid data will realize quality development planning;

2. The use of base maps must be uniform for various sectors of interest and not for use by the sector itself but it is necessary to share data for development purposes;

3. The importance of strengthening institutions as a first step in realizing quality data for development;

4. There needs to be a mutually agreed mechanism regarding input, process, output, and publication of data for several different stakeholders (Private, Policy Makers, and Public);

5. The legal aspect is a legal umbrella that is really needed in the implementation of standard and integrated spatial data management movements;

6. Quality human resources are the driving wheels in spatial data management. Apart from strengthening institutions, strengthening infrastructure, strengthening the quality of human resources are important things that become assets in managing spatial data.

The results of discussions and exchange of opinions between the East Kalimantan Bappeda team and the West Java Bappeda UPTB Pusdalisbang were very useful in finalizing the drafting of spatial data development concepts in East Kalimantan. The quality of spatial data is one of the determinants of the quality of regional development planning.
