Head of East Kalimantan Bappeda Becomes Speaker at ISEW 2024 National Discussion

Jakarta, (13/09/2024) - Head of the East Kalimantan Province Bappeda, Yusliando, was a speaker at the 2024 Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) organized by the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) at JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta, Friday (13/9).

Being a speaker at this event is part of the implementation of the Change Project in the Level II National Leadership Training for the Head of Bappeda. One of the milestones in this change project was the issuance of the East Kalimantan Governor's Decree regarding the Regional Consultation Forum for the Acceleration of Economic Transformation.

Apart from that, participation in this event acts as a strategic step to disseminate the initiative in order to obtain support from the Central Government as well as potential stakeholders who will be part of the forum that will be formed.

ISEW 2024 will be held for 4 days, 10-13 September 2024 with the theme "United Towards a Sustainable Future: Advancing the Energy Transition to Achieve a Golden Indonesia and Net Zero Emissions".

"Since 2005, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government has had an aspiration not to depend on unsustainable sectors. It is indicated from the 2005-2025 RPJPD target that the processing industry will reach around 34% by 2025," said the Head of the East Kalimantan Bappeda in the discussion.

It was further stated that with the designation of East Kalimantan as an IKN Economic Superhub, the location is the same as the development development plan in East Kalimantan. This implementation requires collaboration from various parties. Of course, this step is an effort to accelerate the economic transformation of East Kalimantan.

In the discussion session moderated by Nyimas Wardah as IKI-JET Advisor, GIZ Indonesia/ ASEAN, 3 other speakers were also present, including:

1. Nizhar Marizi, Director of Energy, Mineral and Mining Resources (SDEMP), Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas;

2. Hari Wibawa, Head of the Economic and Development Funding Division of Bappeda, South Sumatra Province;

3. Muce Mochtar, National Program Coordinator, ILO;

The focus of the discussion session was related to the Establishment of a Regional Consultation Forum to Accelerate the Economic Transformation of East Kalimantan, especially facing the energy transition towards net zero emissions or minimal energy use of coal.

Through this discussion, it is hoped that stakeholders in the energy sector and the general public who are target participants in this dialogue, including central and regional governments, academics, private companies (especially in the coal area), media/journalists, indigenous communities, religious organizations, women and youth, and environmental NGOs can support the development of the Long and Medium Term National Development Plan in the energy sector, especially by providing feedback to the Ministry of Development Planning National/Bappenas.
