The Head of Bappeda for East Kalimantan Province has been entrusted with the role of Temporary Mayor of Samarinda

Samarinda, 14 February 2018

Governor of East Kalimantan Dr. H. Awang Faroek Ishak officially confirmed the Head of Bappeda for East Kalimantan Province, Dr. H. Zairin Zain, M.Si as Temporary Acting Mayor (PJS) of Samarinda as stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs No. 131.64-267 of 2018.

"I believe that Dr. H. Zairin Zain, M.Si will be able to carry out his duties and responsibilities as well as possible in accordance with the decree given by the Minister of Home Affairs," said Awang during the Inauguration of the Acting Mayor of Samarinda.

This event was held at the Lamin Etam East Kalimantan Governor's Office, the Mayor of Samarinda H. Syahrie Jaang and his wife, Plt. Regional Secretary of Meiliana Province, Samarinda City Secretary Sugeng Chairuddin, as well as a number of officials within the East Kalimantan Provincial Government and officials within the Samarinda City Government.

After the inauguration of the PJS Mayor of Samarinda, the event continued with the signing of the minutes, then the installation of office marks, pinning of office marks and handing over of the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia by the Governor of East Kalimantan. After that, it was continued with the reading of the Integrity Facts by Zairin Zain and the signing of the Integrity Facts.

As stated in the Minister of Home Affairs' decree, the term of office of the PJS Mayor of Samarinda is from 15 February 2018 to 23 June 2018 in line with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Samarinda taking leave outside the state's responsibility to carry out the 2018 simultaneous Regional Head Election (Pilkada) campaign.

The duties of the PJS Mayor of Samarinda in accordance with the mandate of the decree are to lead the implementation of government affairs which fall under regional authority, maintain public peace and order, facilitate the holding of the definitive election of the Governor and Deputy Governor and maintain the neutrality of Civil Servants (PNS), as well as discuss draft regional regulations and sign regional regulations after obtaining approval from the Minister of Home Affairs.

Governor Awang Faroek hopes that apart from his duties as PJS mayor, the main duties of a permanent official as chairman of the East Kalimantan Bapeda will continue to be carried out, especially to ensure the success of all strategic government projects in East Kalimantan. This was stated by him when giving a speech at the event, "there should be no regional strategic projects that don't work, everything has to work, therefore I really hope that you, aside from being the interim Mayor of Samarinda, will continue to maintain the success and sustainability of development towards an Advanced and Prosperous East Kalimantan until the end of the term of office of the Governor of East Kalimantan in December 2018," he said.

Awang also appealed to Zairin as chairman of Bappeda, Plt. The Regional Secretary and all OPDs must have a strong determination to continue the successes that have been achieved to date. "Thank God, East Kalimantan, based on a survey from the NUS (National University of Singapore), East Kalimantan is ranked 3rd in competitiveness in Indonesia after Jakarta, East Java and East Kalimantan. Thank God, East Kalimantan's open unemployment rate in 2009-2018 fell drastically in 2014, reaching 7.5%, then at the end of 2017 it was only 6.08%. I hope we are all determined to create jobs for the people of East Kalimantan so that the unemployment rate will increase. keep going lower" He said.

The event ended with conveying congratulations in succession, preceded by the Governor of East Kalimantan, the East Kalimantan Regional Leadership Coordination Forum and his wife and followed by other invited participants. (ft)
