Topping Out PLTU 2 X 15 MW in Kariangau

Balikpapan, Thursday 12/1/12. Governor of East Kalimantan DR.H. Awang Faroek Ishak, together with Chairman of the East Kalimantan DPRD Mukmin Faisal, Commissioner of PT Kariangau tooping_PLTU_2_x_15_MW_di_KaringauPower Michael Sumarijanto, representatives of the East Kalimantan Regional Police Chief and Military Commander VI/Mulawarman, Mayor of Balikpapan Rizal Effendi and several officials within the Provincial Government. East Kalimantan and the City Government are topping out the construction of a 2x15 MW PLTU generating machine.

As a sign of this ceremonial event, this is done by pressing the siren button to open the curtain that says Topping Out PT Kariangau Power which stretches vertically over the 60 meter high chimney (the longest power plant chimney in Indonesia), and placing the palm of your hand on the cement cast that has been prepared, the first phase of which will be built with a power of 30 MW with an operational target in early 2013.

This power plant is located in the Kariangau Industrial Area (KIK), Karingau, which is expected to be able to supply electricity needs in the area, which is currently experiencing rapid development, and has a very strategic location where there is infrastructure interconnection, which connects to the Kalimantan Cross Road, Toll Road, Sepinggan Airport so that the mobilization of industrial goods can be distributed to all destination areas.

Michael stated during his speech that the electricity needs at KIK require quite a lot of power. And the discourse on building this power plant has been around for a long time during Mr. Imdad Hamid's leadership as Mayor of Balikpapan, which can now be realized. Furthermore, we also hope for support from the Regional Government through the Governor of East Kalimantan to be able to build an access road to the location which currently only uses sea transportation in order to develop the power plant.

The Governor of East Kalimantan responded to this proposal to immediately coordinate with the Head of the Public Works Department of East Kalimantan Province and at the same time also accompany him. However, the City Government's support regarding land for road construction is also a high priority. The Governor's hope is that all PKP2B companies in East Kalimantan will not solely focus on Comdep assistance funds but rather on how to improve the standard of living of the surrounding area communities.
