USAID SEGAR Leaves a Positive Legacy, East Kalimantan is Ready to Continue Sustainable Development

Samarinda, 06/05 - The Economic and Natural Resources Sector (PSDA) received a visit from representatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Indonesia in the context of updating notifications regarding the Sustainable Environmental Governance Across Regions (SEGAR) program which was implemented in 3 regencies in East Kalimantan, namely Mahakam Ulu, Berau and Kutai Regencies East.


The meeting took place in the room of the Head of the PSDA Division and was chaired directly by Wahyu Gatut Purboyo, and accompanied by technical staff.


This meeting was part of a follow-up to the letter of application submitted by USAID Indonesia regarding an update to the USAID SEGAR program in East Kalimantan which had ended due to United States Government policy. USAID SEGAR works to support Indonesia's development goals, especially East Kalimantan, in balancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use with inclusive economic development and livelihoods.


In the discussion, USAID Indonesia expressed the importance of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government continuing the activities that have been implemented by the SEGAR Program, especially conservation activities carried out by Companies (Business Entities) and community.


The Head of PSDA Bappeda Kaltim, Gatut Purboyo, expressed his gratitude to USAID Indonesia for implementing the SEGAR Program in East Kalimantan, this has made a positive contribution to sustainable development activities. The activities that have been carried out in the SEGAR program will be endeavored to be continued by the East Kalimantan Provincial Government and other Development Partners.


Even though this meeting is information about the end of the SEGAR Program in East Kalimantan, the legacy of this program provides positive value and will be continued by the East Kalimantan Provincial Government and other Development Partners.
