Webinar on dissemination of results of the Covid-19 impact study on people with disabilities in Indonesia

Representatives of the East Kalimantan Province Bappeda attended an online webinar on disseminating the results of a study on the impact of Covid 19 on people with disabilities in Indonesia which was carried out by MAHKOTA and KOMPAK (Community Collaboration and Services for Welfare) in April 2020. This study is a form of collaboration between the Indonesian Bappenas and the Australian Government.

Sinta Satriana, MA, MSC (Social Protection Specialist from MAHKOTA) said

The study was conducted on 1,683 respondents in 32 provinces and in-depth interviews with 78 respondents in 7 provinces. Persons with disabilities (PD) still face vulnerabilities and obstacles in conditions of low education, barriers to the job market, high poverty, low income, high costs of living, and persons with disabilities are much more vulnerable. The database relating to people with disabilities is still not optimal and needs to be sorted, especially the DTKS. Some of the impacts of Covid 19 on the majority of PDs have been a drastic and serious decrease in income, the reach of health services for PDs has decreased, the education gap has become bigger, the gap in access to employment has increased, but positively, access to social protection has become wider and increased. Some of the recommendations emphasized are increasing social protection, access to health services, education services and access to employment.
