JICA Audience in JICA Contact Mission Project Activities for Development Master Plan in East Kalimantan
Tuesday, (01/02/2024) - In today's meeting, the East Kalimantan Province Bappeda facilitated a meeting with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas to unite commitments in carrying out technical cooperation in the "Project for Development Master Plan in East" activity Kalimantan." This meeting was held in the Propeda Bappeda Meeting Room of East Kalimantan Province, aimed at discussing the Tri-City development plan (National Capital (IKN), Samarinda and Balikpapan).
During its visit to Bappeda, JICA accompanied by Bappenas discussed a general overview of the development of Tri-City. The discussion involved aspects of connectivity, accessibility, development and management of smart cities (Smart City), which are in line with the Preliminary Design (Ranwal) planning documents of the RPJPD, RPJMD and RTRW. Apart from Bappeda, there were also related OPDs involved in the construction and development of Tri-City, such as Bappelitbangda of Samarinda City, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Works and Public Housing and the Department of Communication and Information.
For information, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a foreign aid agency from the Japanese government, focusing on economic and social development in partner countries. JICA has established various collaborations with Indonesia, providing support in the fields of infrastructure, education, health and also economic development.
In this collaboration project between JICA and Indonesia the focus is on the development of the Tri-City (IKN, Samarinda and Balikpapan), especially in the aspects of connectivity, accessibility and transformation towards a Smart City.
There are several things to concentrate on in the discussion. Namely, related to the Economic Superhub. This idea aims to realize a green economy and increase economic growth and social welfare. There are two locations planned to become Economic Superhub centers in East Kalimantan, namely the Kariangau and Samarinda areas, with the potential to support industrial downstreaming by 53%.
Furthermore, the main focus of this collaboration is the importance of connectivity and road access in areas both around Tri-City and to and from IKN. The highlight in particular is that the road access to APT Pranoto Airport is still inadequate, especially when it rains. Apart from that, it is hoped that there will be infrastructure for flood management and connectivity in the Kariangau area as an industrial area in the future.
Apart from that, the development of Tri-City focuses on energy transformation towards renewable fuels. In the future, it is hoped that fossil energy will no longer be used, so efforts will be made to transform to renewable energy by 70% which is anticipated to take place before 2045.
This collaboration marks a major step in supporting the vision of sustainable development in Indonesia. The East Kalimantan Provincial Bappeda and JICA together with the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas are jointly committed to realizing a Tri-City that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and provides significant economic benefits for the community. Through infrastructure and technology support, it is hoped that a positive transformation can be achieved in East Kalimantan and welcome a better future for Indonesia.
