Infrastructure and Regional Sectors Hold Meeting to Discuss Raw Water Availability and Sustainable Settlements in East Kalimantan Province
The Infrastructure and Regional Sector held a meeting involving various stakeholders regarding raw water and sustainable settlements in the Propeda Meeting Room of the East Kalimantan Province Bappeda office (26/03/2024).
This meeting is a follow-up to the results of the IKN buffer area planning study meeting which was carried out based on the direction of the Acting Governor, Akmal Malik, on March 1 2024.
The meeting chaired by Ibnu Abbas, team leader for the Water Resources Sector and Spatial Planning Sector discussed in depth the matrix of raw water supply and sustainable settlements in East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) and the National Capital Region (IKN) together with several related stakeholders such as BWS Kalimantan IV Samarinda, the East Kaliamntan Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center, the Department of PUPR & PERA, Water Resources Sector of East Kalimantan Province, PUPR & PERA Service for Human Settlements, PUPR & PERA Service, Spatial Planning Sector, and PUPR & PERA Service for Housing & Settlements.
One of the main objectives of this meeting is to map development planning related to the availability of raw water and sustainable housing, especially in the IKN area. For example, to meet the projected domestic raw water needs in IKN, the projected water needs are approximately 5,000 liters per second, planning for the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Water Treatment Plant (IPA) is needed and supported by the Sepaku River Intake.
Meanwhile, for IKN buffer areas such as Samarinda, Balikpapan, North Penajam Paser (PPU), and Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), plans are being considered to provide raw water through the Mahakam River Intake with the same capacity, namely 5,000 liters per second.
Apart from that, this meeting also discussed plans related to spatial planning in the IKN buffer area. In this regard, the Spatial Planning Sector has conducted studies related to the identification of spatial investment for planning the development of IKN buffer areas in Samarinda and Balikpapan, as well as a study of spatial investment for new growth centers to support IKN in PPU and Kukar.
Thus, this meeting is an important milestone in efforts to ensure that vital raw water resources and sustainable settlements can be guaranteed for the people of East Kalimantan.
Through joint collaboration, it is hoped that the plans prepared can provide concrete and sustainable solutions to infrastructure and spatial planning challenges in IKN and in East Kalimantan.
