SOVEREIGN DRINKING WATER FORUM OF THE CITY OF SAMARINDA

Samarinda, (26/10/2020) This activity was attended by elements from the East Kalimantan Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center, East Kalimantan Province Bappeda, East Kalimantan Province Public Works, Spatial Planning and Public Housing Service, Samarinda City Bappeda, Samarinda City Public Works and Spatial Planning Service, Samarinda City Perumdam Tirta Kencana, and the Governor's Team for Overseeing the Acceleration of Development (TGUP3) of East Kalimantan Province.

In efforts to fulfill the drinking water sector services in Samarinda City based on the transmission network system, there are several problems such as the decline in the raw water quality of the Mahakam River, several pipelines being damaged, and a lack of stability in the electricity supply (requires back-up to ensure IPA operations run 24 hours).

On the other hand, problems also exist in the distribution network system, some of which are out of 159,000 SRs in Samarinda City, there are 13,000 SRs that are not served with clean water 24 hours/day, this is because clean water production is still minimal. Apart from that, the Samarinda City budget allocation for the drinking water sector is also still experiencing limitations.

Head of Subdivision of Creative Infrastructure and Settlements Bappeda East Kalimantan Province Alfino Rinaldi Arief explained that the Samarinda City Government will build the Gunung Lingai II IPA at 50 lt/s and is currently building the Makroman IPA with physical progress of 56%. The East Kalimantan Provincial Government is collaborating with the Samarinda City Government for the construction of the Kapih River SPAM, namely the construction of the intake in 2020 (not yet completed due to budget rationalization due to Covid-19) and the procurement of distribution interconnection pipes.

In the future, the Samarinda city drinking water sector programs/activities that will be proposed in order of priority include the construction of the Cendana WTP, reducing NRW through replacing customer water meters, and building a main distribution network.
