JICA and Bappeda Kaltim Discuss the Tri-City Concept in the Presentation of JICA Data Collection and Survey in East Kalimantan Province

Samarinda (05/16/2024), East Kalimantan Province Bappeda facilitated the visit of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to present data collection and survey in East Kalimantan Province related to the development of the concept of Tri- City. The meeting was held in the East Kalimantan Provincial Bappeda Office Bappeda Office Meeting, attended by representatives from Bappenas, JICA, East Kalimantan Province DPUPR, East Kalimantan Province Transportation Agency, and Infrastructure and Bappeda Province of East Kalimantan Province.

In the meeting, JICA conveyed the results of the study of the situation and challenges of each Tri-City city, draft Tri-City Development Plan Concepts, Insiative Concepts of Tri-City Development, and Examples of collaboration between cities in several countries in realizing their respective development goals.

Some of the main topics discussed include accessibility and connectivity between three cities, waste management and control, energy transition, and industrial cluster.

JICA proposes the construction of efficient connectivity and mobility with the concept of "10 Minutes City" to accommodate population growth in the cities of Balikpapan and Samarinda. 10 Minutes City, aka cities that are designed with public transportation facilities that make it possible for residents to reach public transportation facilities within 10 minutes. In addition, the connectivity and accessibility sector between three cities is proposed based on green infrastructure.

Tri-City's development is also proposed to develop an integrated, inclusive, harmonious, harmonious area and reduce disparity (nothing left) between cities and villages.

In terms of waste management, JICA emphasizes coordination in the process of gathering, disposal and management of waste as well as the need for waste management policies such as reduce, reuse, recycle (3R) and landfill mining to extend life Final Disposal Site (TPA).

Landfill Mining is a waste management strategy in the TPA that aims to provide land that is reused, by mining the old garbage that has been at least six years old and re-utilizing the mining waste.

These policies must be strengthened to extend the life of the existing and new landfills as an effort to manage the capacity of the landfill.

To realize a sustainable area and a prosperous society, Tri-City is expected to increase and combine existing industrial clusters by coordinating between central, provincial governments, to district and city levels for Interesting foreign and domestic investment. Meanwhile, in the energy supply and energy supply sector, it is proposed to be built for a renewable and resilient energy transmission and a durable infrastructure network to ensure a low carbon and uninterrupted electricity supply.
Thus, the meeting was the first step in realizing the development of the Tri-City project as a joint effort in realizing the vision of Tri-City development that was sustainable, inclusive, and quality for the entire community of East Kalimantan.
