Aswin said that the East Kalimantan economy was influenced by the trade war between the United States and the People's Republic of China
- Online Seminar on Optimizing geospatial-based regional productivity management in East Kalimantan
Head of Bappeda East Kalimantan Province Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Aswin, MM, representing the Governor of East Kalimantan, delivered a presentation regarding the East Kalimantan RKPD at an online seminar with the topic of Dare to be Sovereign for East Kalimantan via Video Conference in the GSCC Meeting Room of the East Kalimantan Bappeda office on Thursday 16 July 2020.
This activity is a collaboration with Mulawarman University in particular Center for Development and Spatial Planning Studies (PKP2R) together with the East Kalimantan Provincial Government. Present at this event was the Chancellor of Mulawarman University, Prof. Drs. H. Masjaya, Head of Bappenda Dra. Hj. Ismiati, Head of PKP2R Dr. Ir. Zulkarnain, Ms, and Resource Person Drs. Samedi Amulyo, MA, PHd.
This seminar, which was attended by around 400 participants, aims to discuss policy strategies for optimizing the area in order to support the downstreaming of regional resource products and for regional improvement. So that it can increase sources of financing for regional development. On this occasion, the Head of the Provincial Bappeda. East Kalimantan delivered a presentation regarding the 2021 East Kalimantan RKPD. He mentioned the framework of thinking in formulating RKPD priorities in East Kalimantan. This may be in line with what Mr. Zulkarnain is thinking, namely growing industrial downstreaming which is able to strengthen the people's economy and have an impact on improving the regional economy. basic industries are needed that can operate on a production scale. Therefore, development in 2021 will be focused on economic recovery, strengthening the trade industry and cooperatives, availability of basic infrastructure, availability of access to education and health, as well as social reform.
Aswin also said that currently the development challenges facing East Kalimantan Province globally are influenced by the trade war between the United States and the People's Republic of China, and the slowdown in global economic growth due to Covid-19. If you look at the export map of East Kalimantan, the PRC has a fairly large role, namely (28% of total non-oil and gas), it is estimated that it will hold back East Kalimantan's economic growth prospects in the medium term. The next challenge is the appointment of East Kalimantan as the capital of the Republic of Indonesia which is quite influential, which requires East Kalimantan to carry out (1) Accelerate economic transformation through economic development of the IKN region by developing the processing industry, trade industry and tourism sectors that are environmentally friendly, (2) Accelerate development and equitable distribution of INFRSTRUCTURE in order to fulfill basic infrastructure and connectivity needs to and from IKN, (3) Increasing the CAPACITY and QUALITY of local human resources to prepare human resources who have competitiveness according to the demands of development needs IKN-RI, and (4) Increasing efforts to rehabilitate forest areas as well as mitigate and reduce disaster risks, such as forest and land fires, floods, landslides, etc.
Then the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is reduced production capacity, decreased economic growth rate , increasing layoffs and unemployment, increasing poverty rates, increasing bad credit and decreasing people's purchasing power. "We can see that the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on the slowing of East Kalimantan's economic growth in the first quarter by 1.27% year on year, then there was an increase in the unemployment rate at the beginning of 2020 to 6.88%. The East Kalimantan poverty rate as of March increased to 6.10%. and the inflation rate until June was recorded at 1.52% year on year," he explained.
