Exposure to Community-based Mangrove, Swamp and Peat Protection and Restoration/Rehabilitation Activities in East Kalimantan
Samarinda, (11/07/2023). Bappeda of East Kalimantan Province through the Young Expert Planner Sub Coordinator for Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Investment and Tourism, Mr. Dany Fachriza attended the Community-based Exposure of Mangrove, Swamp and Peat Protection and Restoration/Rehabilitation Activities in East Kalimantan which was organized by the Provincial Environmental Service. East Kalimantan at the Mercure Samarinda Hotel.• Activities opened by the Provincial Secretary. East Kalimantan, Ms. Sri Wahyuni was attended by around 104 participants consisting of elements of the Central Government, Vertical Agencies, OPD within the East Kalimantan Provincial Government and District/City, as well as elements of the East Kalimantan Provincial DPRD, Academics, NGOs, Journalists and Bankers.

In his speech, he hoped that through this activity information could be disseminated about the development of mangrove, swamp and peat protection and restoration/rehabilitation programs in East Kalimantan.

Furthermore, this activity can produce recommendations for the East Kalimantan Provincial Government together with all development partners in an effort to play an active role in the protection and Restoration/Rehabilitation of Mangroves, Swamps and Peatlands in East Kalimantan.

For your information, wetland ecosystems have a big role and benefits for social, economic and ecological life in East Kalimantan. Wetland ecosystem management partnerships have now become a model initiative in the Green Growth Compact program in East Kalimantan. Activities related to mangrove protection and management partnerships by the parties have been initiated in Berau district through the Berau Forest Carbon program and in the Mahakam Delta. In 2023, there will be two new model initiatives related to wetland ecosystem management in Mebuat-Suwi, East Kutai and Muara Siran, Kutai Kartanegara. Therefore, this activity was carried out to share information regarding developments and experiences in community-based management, protection and restoration/rehabilitation programs in mangrove, swamp and peat areas in East Kalimanten.
