Regional Consultation on Environmental and Social Strategic Studies on the Energy Transition Plan in East Kalimantan

Samarinda, (17/07/2023). Bappeda of East Kalimantan Province, through the Economic and Natural Resources sector, facilitated the holding of Focus Group Discussions in Regional Consultations related to Environmental and Social Strategic Studies carried out by the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance along with the Consultation Team from PT. Hatfield Indonesia as a follow-up to the letter from Plt. Head of the Center for Climate Change and Multilateral Financing Policy, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.

The activity which was carried out at the Aston Samarinda Hotel and attended by 26 participants from the Central, Provincial and Regency/City Government as well as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aimed to ensure the identification and Mitigation steps are implemented by taking into account the impact on the environment and social economy as well as to obtain input from stakeholders at the provincial level through public consultations carried out by BKF of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance and the Consultation Team from PT. Hatfield Indonesia with ADB.

In his speech and direction, the Head of the East Kalimantan Provincial Bappeda said that over the last 5 decades, East Kalimantan has made a major contribution to the national economy. In the future after oil and gas and mining, East Kalimantan still wants to play a big role in the national economy through economic transformation.

Furthermore, it is hoped that the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) Study Document resulting from this regional consultation can play an important role in accelerating economic transformation to help affected community groups.

For your information, the SESA document is one of the efforts made by the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of Finance in developing clean energy through the Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM). Therefore, this regional consultation was carried out to obtain input and recommendations from relevant stakeholders at the Provincial and Regency/City levels in improving the SESA document.
