Participation in interactive discussion activities on the role of the coal sector in facing the challenges of the energy transition in Indonesia

Friday, 29 October 2021. East Kalimantan Bappeda, represented by the Economic and Natural Resources Sector, Attended Participation in Interactive Discussion Activities on the Role of the Coal Sector in Facing the Challenges of Energy Transition in Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the countries that actively uses coal to drive economic activity and provide national electricity. However, the use of coal is also considered to be one of the main causes of the increase in greenhouse gases which causes the phenomenon of climate change. The Indonesian government needs to respond wisely to the use of coal in Indonesia so that it is in line with the energy transition process. In an effort to support this, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas together with GIZ and IESR through the Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for South East Asia (CASE) Program held an Interactive Discussion with the theme: The Role of the Coal Sector in Facing the Challenges of Energy Transition in Indonesia.

Bappeda East Kalimantan Province, represented by the Head of the Economy and Natural Resources Division, Ir. Hidayanti Darma, M.P., was one of the speakers in the Interactive Discussion on the Role of the Coal Sector in Facing the Challenges of Energy Transition in Indonesia.

He conveyed the global energy transition strategy which has been in line with East Kalimantan's efforts to encourage economic change towards development that is more balanced between utilizing natural resource potential for economic growth and guaranteeing East Kalimantan's sustainability for future generations with economic transformation. This is reflected in every vision and mission of the East Kalimantan RPJMD since 2008 which emphasizes product downstream efforts by increasing the added value of natural resources in East Kalimantan until now for the 2019-2023 RPJMD period with the vision of Dare for a Sovereign East Kalimantan.
