National Coordination Meeting to Accelerate Prevention of Stunting Children
Samarinda, (22/10/2020). Head of Human Resources and Government Drs. H. Hariyo Santoso and Head of Social Welfare Sub-Sector H. Adrie Asdi, SH attended the 2020 National Technical Coordination Meeting for the Acceleration of Stunting Prevention in 2020 virtually.
With the theme "Building and Strengthening Commitments to Accelerate and Prevent Stunting," the Coordination Meeting was opened by Vice President KH. Ma'ruf Amin at the official residence of the Vice President.
Stunting or often called dwarfism is a condition of failure to grow in children under five years of age (toddlers) due to chronic malnutrition, recurrent infections and inadequate psychosocial stimulation, especially within 1,000 days. First Life (HPK), namely from the fetus to the child aged 23 months.
Based on 2018 Basic Health Research data, it shows that 30.8% or around 8 (eight) million children under five are stunted. A total of 228 districts/cities have a stunting prevalence above 40 (classified as very high). Meanwhile, the government has targeted the prevalence of stunting to fall by 14% by 2024.
In order to accelerate stunting prevention, the Government has set 3 (three) priorities. First, the priority areas for 2021 will be 360 priority areas. Until 2024, coverage will be expanded to all districts/cities in Indonesia. Second, priority targets consisting of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children aged 0-23 months (households 1,000 HPK). Third, priority interventions consisting of specific nutrition interventions and sensitive nutrition interventions.
In his speech, Ma'ruf also appealed to the Regional Government during this pandemic to make innovative efforts to ensure that health services are carried out according to health protocols, so that the number of stunting prevalence does not increase.
