Opening Remarks for the Socialization of Agricultural Technology Recommendations with Specific Locations in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Provinces

Head of Provincial Bappeda. East Kalimantan, Prof. Dr. Ir. H.M. Aswin, MM gave a speech and opened the Socialization Event for Location-Specific Agricultural Technology Recommendations in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Provinces organized by the Provincial Agricultural Technology Assessment Center (BPTP). East Kalimantan, Thursday (04/08/2022).

-

The event was held at the Provincial BPTP Hall. East Kalimantan was attended by elements of relevant Regional Apparatus Organizations within the East Kalimantan Provincial Government (Food, Food Crop and Horticulture Department; Animal Husbandry and Health Service; Plantation Service; as well as related UPTD), academic elements (Faculty of Agriculture Unmul, Unikarta, UWGM), elements of Balai Agricultural Extension Officers (BPP), and other related stakeholders.

-

The aim of holding this event is, among other things, to achieve the Strategic Goals of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture and to support the achievement of the Ministry of Agriculture's Vision for 2022 - 2024.

-

In his speech, Prof. Aswin conveyed that the agricultural potential which includes the agricultural sub-sectors of food crops, horticulture, plantations and livestock is quite promising in East Kalimantan. Therefore, location-specific adaptive technology is very necessary to increase the productivity of cultivated commodities, so that they match or approach the potential yields of these commodities.

-

For your information, food crop production for rice commodities in East Kalimantan Province in 2021 is around 244,677.96 tons of GKG, equivalent to 142,321.38 tons of rice, or a decrease of 17,756.56 tons ( 6.77 percent) compared to 2020. Meanwhile, for cattle farming, the population in 2021 is 121,290 head, and egg production 11,564.1 tons. Currently, the existing production is not yet able to meet food needs in East Kalimantan, most of which is still supplied from outside the region.

-

It was further stated that East Kalimantan continues to strive to optimize all existing resources to increase food production, especially in terms of land use for the development of agricultural commodities. For this reason, efforts are needed to increase the capacity of agricultural resources to encourage agricultural commodity production achievements to increase, so that production targets can be achieved to meet food needs.

-

BPTP East Kalimantan as an extension of the Ministry of Agriculture will play a role in assisting the application of location-specific technology to areas in East Kalimantan, one of which is through a technology recommendation book that has been prepared. In this way, it is hoped that it can support agricultural development in East Kalimantan Province and can be utilized by agricultural stakeholders to encourage increased production and improve farmer welfare.
