National Seminar "IKN Nusantara in Social, Economic and Agricultural Perspectives"

Saturday, 05/03/2022. Head of Bappeda East Kalimantan Province, Prof. Dr. Ir. HM Aswin MM was present as a resource person at the National Seminar with the theme "IKN Nusantara in Social, Economic and Agricultural Perspectives" organized by the Indonesian Agricultural Economics Association (PERHEPI).

Prof. Aswin delivered a presentation regarding "Readiness and Benefits of East Kalimantan Province as the National Capital (IKN)". In his presentation, he said that East Kalimantan Province was very ready and had made various efforts to welcome the move of IKN to East Kalimantan, especially in terms of preparing regional development planning documents (RPJMD, RKPD) and East Kalimantan RTRW.

On this occasion, Prof. Aswin said that the move of IKN to East Kalimantan was something that would certainly have huge benefits and a positive impact on the development of the East Kalimantan region. This positive impact will certainly be felt in all aspects of development, such as social, cultural and economic aspects and of course will also have an impact on the agricultural sector in East Kalimantan.

In relation to the agricultural sector, it was stated that the transfer of IKN would certainly be in line with the increasing need for food in East Kalimantan. This needs to be prepared as well as possible because it is a very profitable opportunity for agricultural human resources in East Kalimantan.

It should be noted that currently East Kalimantan's food needs for rice commodities are still 295.8 thousand tonnes, and if IKN is moved the demand for rice commodities is projected to reach 452 thousand tonnes or even more as with the increase in the number of residents moving to East Kalimantan.

However, agricultural development in East Kalimantan still has a number of problems and obstacles, including not yet optimal utilization of agricultural resources for food and nutrition availability; Environmental damage and global climate change; Availability of facilities and infrastructure is still limited; Limited access of farmers to capital; The occurrence of conversion of agricultural land; Farmers' Exchange Rates are not yet optimal; Farmer institutions are not yet optimal; Increasingly, the younger generation is interested in agriculture; Limited agricultural human resources; and not yet optimal coordination between sectors.

The existing problems and obstacles must be resolved immediately so that East Kalimantan agriculture can run optimally and become a leading sector that can stimulate East Kalimantan's economy in the future.
