WEBINAR "Socialization of the Role of Environmental Fund Management Bodies and Financing Application Mechanisms"
Samarinda, 10 June 2021, 09.00 WITA. Bappeda of East Kalimantan Province attended a webinar to socialize the role of environmental fund management bodies and the financing application mechanism which was held virtually. This event was also attended by the East Kalimantan DDPI Secretariat, East Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service, East Kalimantan Province DKP3A, East Kalimantan Province DPMPD, East Kalimantan Regional Secretariat Economic Bureau, East Kalimantan Regional Commissioner APHI and Mulawarman University. The event was opened by the Chair of the Regional Climate Change Council (DDPI), Prof. Daddy Ruhiyat.
Resources for this activity include the Director of Fund Collection and Development of the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Endah Tri Kurniawati.
Several things conveyed by resource persons who attended this activity included:
- As a form of implementing green development and reducing carbon emissions, especially in the implementation of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCP-Carbon Fund) Program from the World Bank, which is implemented in East Kalimantan Province with an allocation of USD 110 million or IDR 1.5 trillion for the emission reduction program of 22 million tons of CO2e during the 2020-2024 period.
- Carbon emission reduction program supported by the World Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Therefore, fund management will still be audited with BPK RI.
- The East Kalimantan Provincial Government requires accuracy in managing funds, including supervision and facilitation of activities which will be carried out by BPDLH.
Furthermore, BPDLH emphasized that it is ready to assist the East Kalimantan Provincial Government in implementation related to environmental fund management. East Kalimantan Province is the only province selected in Indonesia for the program to save forests from deforestation and forest degradation. As well as being a great opportunity to obtain performance-based payments of up to USD 110 million from donor countries through the World Bank as compensation if East Kalimantan is able to reduce 22 million tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the next five years.
