Bappeda Kaltim collaborates with GGGI in mangrove rehabilitation projects using a natural -based approach

Samarinda (07/08/2024), Head of PSDA Bappeda East Kalimantan, Wahyu Gatut Purboyo, officially opened a study program and environmental management plan on the Nasclim Project (Nature-based Solution for Climate Smart LiveliODE Mangrove.

This event was held at the Mercure Samarinda Hotel, collaborating with the Global Growth Institute (GGGI), to discuss the assessment of the impact and environmental management plan on sustainable pond development activities and climate resistance.

attended by various institutions, provincial governments, academics, development partners, and business actors, Gatut Purboyo in his remarks, stated that this agenda is a good collaboration involving various sectors.

"In my opinion this is a very good collaboration, from the government, the community, and also the private sector. How to prosper the coastal community, especially those who meet the livelihoods without eliminating the environment so as not to cause disasters such as abrasion and sustainability of the business itself," he said.

"This is also one of the commitments of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government in collaboration with several development partners for how to minimize climate change. The provincial government has also compiled climate change adaptation documents and in the future will be processed to arrange their mitigation," he added.

Nasclim project aims to rehabilitate mangroves naturally by redesigning the location of the dike and pond flood gates.

This project seeks to expand and accelerate the practice of cultivation and restoration of sustainable mangrove ecosystems.

nasclim will communicate the integrated mangrove cultivation method or associated mangrove aquaculture (AMA) for productive ponds, and rehabilitation of mangrove or ecological mangroves rehabilitation (EMR) in the ulcers that are not productive. This is based on the rise of shrimp cultivation practices that are not sustainable from the perspective of the environment, social, and economic.

The redesign process both AMA and EMR will involve hydrological construction that has the potential to cause environmental impacts, so consultation is needed with stakeholders.

Therefore, this agenda aims to get input and feedback from stakeholders as a consideration in the decision making process.

It is expected that from this event there will be adequate data, information, and input for the preparation of environmental impact assessment documents and plans for the NASCLIM project in East Kalimantan, as well as improving the quality and relevance in the Nasclim project plan.
