East Kalimantan Bappeda Becomes Resource Person at Kick Off Meeting Samarinda Mayor's IKU Achievement Strategy: Strengthen Collaboration Commitment to Realize GHG Emission Reduction Target
Samarinda, 3 July 2025 – The City of Samarinda shows a strong commitment to efforts to reduce the intensity of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions through a Kick Off Meeting Strategy for Achieving Key Performance Indicators (IKU) for the Mayor of Samarinda in 2025. This meeting aims to harmonize the understanding and commitment of all stakeholders to achieve emission reduction targets. Bappeda East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) actively participated in this event as a resource person, through the East Kalimantan Bappeda Young Expert Planner, Agus Taswanto who explained the direction of low carbon development policy.
In his presentation, he explained that the commitment and direction of low carbon development policy had been integrated into the National Long Term Development Plan (RPJPN), Regional Long Term Development Plan (RPJPD), and Regional Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) for 2025–2029. This is important considering three major environmental crises – climate change, environmental pollution and degradation, and biodiversity loss – which threaten continued development and livelihoods. Collaboration of all parties, including government, private sector and society, is very much needed in handling climate change.
The city of Samarinda has made a significant contribution to this effort, with 80 actions that succeeded in reducing emissions by 778.3 thousand tons CO₂eq. This effort is supported by 47 action reporters, including the Samarinda Regional Government, Waste Banks and Hospitals. GHG emission reporting is carried out transparently and accountably through the AKSARA and SIGNSMART systems, which are also a forum for recording low-carbon development actions and GHG inventory. in 2024 it will reach 1.34 million tonnes CO₂eq. Indonesia's commitment to reduce GHG emissions is 31.89% independently and 43.20% with international assistance by 2030, as stated in the document Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). Reducing the intensity of GHG emissions is also one of the performance indicators of Regional Heads as stated in the RPJPD, showing the synergy between efforts to reduce emissions and economic growth.
