Indonesia-Malaysia Defense Diplomacy Impacts on the Defense Strategy of Indonesia's New Capital City

Head of Bappeda East Kalimantan Province, Prof. Dr. Ir. H.M. Aswin MM represented the Governor of East Kalimantan to be a resource person at the Domestic Work Lecture (KKDN) of the Faculty of Defense Strategy (FSP) International Defense Diplomacy Study Program, Defense University of the Republic of Indonesia, Thursday (17/02/22).

"The choice of East Kalimantan Province as the location for the New National Capital was based on predetermined criteria starting from a location that is geographically in the middle of Indonesia's territory which represents justice, meets defense and security parameters, to low potential for social conflict," Prof. Aswin Explains.

It was further stated that in relation to the move of the National Capital City to East Kalimantan Province, adjustments have been made to planning documents at both the provincial and Regency/City levels while still adhering to the RPJMN, RKP and National RTRW, so that regional strategic projects will be directed towards supporting the development of the National Capital City.

The event was moderated by Major General Karmin Suharna as a permanent lecturer at the Defense University and attended by elements of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government, North Penajam Paser Regency Government, related Central Government Institutions, Military Institutions, Defense Observers, as well as postgraduate students of the International Defense Diplomacy Study Program.

The hope to be achieved through the implementation of this activity is to achieve a deep understanding of the knowledge and strategic steps of border diplomacy and the possible impact on the preparation of the National Capital in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, so that it can provide theoretical and practical input to the Indonesian Government so that it is able to overcome threats related to borders on the island of Kalimantan.
