Discussion of the development of the food and beverage industry, the CPO processing industry
Samarinda, 09 June 2021, 09.30 WITA. In order to prepare periodic assessments of the economy and the development of the latest strategic issues, especially those related to the food and beverage industry and the CPO processing industry, Bank Indonesia held a limited discussion regarding this matter virtually via the zoom meeting application.
This activity presented resource persons from the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs of East Kalimantan Province and Bappeda of East Kalimantan Province.
The performance of the food and beverage industry in East Kalimantan's economic growth in 2020 showed a figure of -3.63, this growth dropped sharply compared to 2019 which reached 7.85. If we look at the GDP contribution of the food and beverage sector to the non-oil and gas industry in 2020, it has a contribution of 33.5%, the second largest after the chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industries with a contribution of 43%.
The food and beverage sector is included in the 5 (five) aspirations of Indonesia 4.0 focus sectors together with textiles and fashion, automotive, chemicals and electronics which is called Making Indonesia 4.0. These five sector aspirations are long-term steps for priority sectors.
In his presentation, the Head of Bappeda for East Kalimantan Province, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. M. Aswin, MM said that if we look at the economic structure of East Kalimantan according to business fields, the mining sector in the first quarter of 2021 grew by 43.02% (y on y), while the processing industry was 18.57%, he explained that overall economic growth in the first quarter of 2021 experienced a decrease of -2.96. This decline was influenced by the decline in the mining and quarrying sector caused by the decline in coal and oil prices.
The Head of the East Kalimantan Province Bappeda explained several policy directions in the 2019 - 2023 RPJMD Amendment with regard to the oil and gas sector and the processing industry, seen from the third mission, namely realizing quality economic growth, which is the target What we want to achieve is increasing the value of non-oil and gas and coal exports, increasing the contribution of the non-oil and gas and coal processing industry sector, as well as increasing cooperative and SME economic businesses.
