FGD Initiates Post-Oil and Gas East Kalimantan: Eco-Edutourism "OIL AND GAS Transition to OTEC"
Hi, fellow planners!
Bappeda East Kalimantan Province through Economic and Natural Resources Staff Nurmiana Afriany S.T. attended the Forum Group Discussion (FGD) which was held on Thursday (2/11/2023) in the Public Lecture Room at the ITK Balikpapan Campus, East Kalimantan.
The FGD, which is a collaboration between the ITS FTK Marine Engineering Department and the ITK Marine Engineering Study Program, was opened by ITS Professor Lecturer, Faculty of Marine Engineering, Prof. Mukhtasor. He introduced the OTEC (Ocean Energy) concept which is widely used in developed countries for post-mining reclamation, especially oil and gas such as in Okinawa, Japan and South Korea.
Several important notes obtained from the results of this FGD include :
1. This OTEC concept utilizes oil and gas pipes that are no longer in use to be used as electrical energy generators that can be used to meet community needs;
2. Apart from meeting electricity needs, OTEC can also be developed into underwater mineral bottled water that can be consumed by the public, raw materials for the cosmetics industry;
3. Through the Implementing Arrangement, there are several oil and gas platform decommissioning pilot projects in East Kalimantan on the Attaka-I, Attaka-UA and Attaka-EB oil and gas platforms located on the coast of Bontang City;
4. Through OTEC, the Eco-Edu Tourism concept can be applied after the operation of oil and gas platforms, especially on land, it can become a tourist attraction by utilizing oil and gas distribution pipes to become Cold Water Pipe (CWP) to bring water from the depths of the sea for Marine Thermal Power Plants (PLTPL);
5. The investment value spent on this OTEC pilot project is 6-7 million USD/platform;
