International Public Lecture "Green Economy New Source of Growth in Kalimantan"

Plt. The Head of Bappeda for East Kalimantan Province, Mr. Yusliando, ST, was a resource person in the International Public Lecture which was a collaborative Public Lecture on the activities of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office, Kalimantan Regional Coordinator with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Mulawarman University through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) , Wednesday (08/02/2023).

In the activity opened by the Chair of LP2M UNMUL, Prof. Widi Sunaryo, SP., M.Sc., Ph.D and held in the Prof. Building. Masjaya (Unmul HUB) 3rd Floor Lecture Theater Room with the theme "Starting Green Transition in Kalimantan to Entrench Economic Dynamism, Social Progress, and Environmental Sustainability" and was attended by students, research scientists and policy makers at the government level, as well as private companies involved in the field of land-based industry, Mr. Yusliando delivered a presentation regarding the Green Development Perspective in East Kalimantan Province.

Green Development in East Kalimantan has begun since the declaration of Green Kaltim, known as Kaltim Green, on January 7 2010 as a commitment to realizing Sustainable and Just Development by the Provincial Government, Regency/City Government and all elements of society.

Furthermore, Mr. Yusliando said that East Kalimantan had prepared economic changes towards more balanced development, namely between utilizing the potential of natural resources for economic growth and guaranteeing the sustainability of East Kalimantan for future generations, including through development of the Maloy Batuta Trans Kalimantan Special Economic Zone (SEZ MBTK), the Kariangau Industrial Zone (KIK) and Buluminung, as well as the East Kalimantan Tourism Destination.

In the International Public Lecture, there were 2 other speakers, including: Prof. Wing Thye Woo from the University of California, Davis and serves as Vice President of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) and Prof. Leong Yuen Yoong (Director of Sustainability Studies, UN-SDSN) who explained the concept and application of green economy.

Through this activity, it is hoped that all policy makers can take an approach to be implemented in East Kalimantan, so that natural resource management can be in line with green economic principles, especially with regard to unique environmental characteristics in East Kalimantan.
