Regional Consultation on Environmental and Social Strategic Studies on Energy Transition Plans in East Kalimantan

Samarinda, (07/17/2023). Bappeda of East Kalimantan Province through the economic and natural resource sector carrying out the facilitation of the implementation of group discussions focused in regional consultations related to environmental and social strategic studies conducted by the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia along with the Consultation Team from PT. Hatfield Indonesia as a follow -up to the Acting Letter. Head of the Climate and Multilateral Change Financing Policy Center of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance.

Activities carried out at the Aston Samarinda Hotel and attended by 26 participants from the central, provincial and district/city government elements as well as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aimed to ensure the process of identifying and mitigating measures by taking into account the impact on the environment and social economy and to get input from stakeholders at the provincial level Hatfield Indonesia with ADB.

In his remarks and direction, the Head of East Kalimantan Provincial Bappeda said that East Kalimantan for the last 5 decades had a major contribution to the national economy. In the future after oil and gas and the Kaltim mine still want to play a major role in the national economy through economic transformation.

Furthermore, it is expected that the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) study documents resulting from this regional consultation can play an important role in accelerating economic transformation to help affected community groups.

To note, the Sesa document is one of the efforts made by the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Finance in the development of clean energy through Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM). Therefore, this regional consultation is carried out to get input and recommendations from related stakeholders at the provincial and district/city levels in improving Sesa documents.
