Head of the Economic Division of Bappeda, East Kalimantan Province, Ir. Hidayanti Darma MP attended the agenda "Workshop for Discussion of Recommendations on Mapping Results of the Cocoa and Palm Oil Commodity Supply Chain in Berau, Mahakam Ulu and East Kutai Regencies" organized by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and USAID SEGAR on Monday (28/03/2022) in Samarinda.< /p>
Several important points to note during the implementation of the Workshop, namely:
Total national production of palm oil of 0.36% comes from East Kutai and is exported and consumed domestically and nationally where a significant increase in production occurred in 2019, namely 50.62%;
Collaboration has been carried out by companies, NGOs, independent farmers and related agencies to maintain the palm oil commodity supply chain;
The sustainability aspect of independent smallholder oil palm plantations determines the achievement of sustainable plantations on a jurisdictional scale in East Kutai, fulfilling farmers' skills in good cultivation practices by paying attention to environmental, conservation, hcv and hcs aspects;
Cocoa is a leading commodity in Berau Regency. However, in the last 7 years the plantation area has decreased, where in the last 5 years cocoa production has decreased by 74.21%;
The area of cocoa fields in Mahulu Regency since 2018 has increased by 64.52%;
In terms of volume, Berau and Mahulu Regency are still far from being compared to Sulawesi and Sumatra in terms of production volume, but East Kalimantan can promote cocoa as a superior commodity and target the premium market; The existence of connectivity between farmers and industry can encourage sustainable collaboration with definite market guarantees from market players in the commodity sector, both PALM and Cocoa.
