ICCTF and Swaniti Initiative Audience Discusses Energy Transition Research Study

Samarinda (26/06/2024) - The Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund (ICCTF) held an audience with the Swaniti Initiative regarding the latest research study which aims to operationalize the just energy transition framework program. This meeting took place in the Head Room for Economic and Natural Resources (PSDA) on Wednesday (25/06) and was attended by representatives from ICCTF, Swaniti Initiative, Head of PSDA, Wahyu Gatut Purboyo and staff.

This research study from the Swaniti Initiative focuses on mapping the aspirations of nearby communities in the energy transition process. This is in line with the Indonesian government's efforts to ensure that changes towards sustainable energy can be carried out fairly and inclusively, without ignoring the interests and aspirations of affected local communities.

For information, the Swaniti Initiative is a Non-Governmental Organization founded in 2012 based in India. They work to improve community welfare by helping the government implement sustainable development policies, increasing the use of renewable energy, improving governance, and empowering local communities. The Swaniti Initiative uses data and evidence to design innovative and effective programs.

This meeting focused on various important aspects related to implementing a just transition framework. Apart from that, ways to increase community involvement in the energy transition process were also discussed and identified challenges and opportunities that might arise during its implementation.

This hearing is an important first step in joint efforts to realize a just and inclusive energy transition in Indonesia as well as a consideration for the government and stakeholders in taking more targeted steps to achieve clean energy goals while still respecting and empowering local communities.
