Berau Regency Sovereign Drinking Water Forum

Samarinda, (10/11/2020). In order to fulfill drinking water sector services in the East Kalimantan Province region, the East Kalimantan Province Bappeda continues to coordinate the Sovereign Drinking Water Forum (FAMB) for Berau Regency. This forum was held virtually via video conference and was attended by the East Kalimantan Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center, East Kalimantan Provincial Bappeda, East Kalimantan Provincial PUPRPERA Office, Berau Regency Baplitbang, Berau Regency PUPR Service, Governor's Team for Overseeing Accelerated Development (TGUP3) of East Kalimantan Province.

In general, this forum identifies several main problems in Berau, such as the lack of availability of raw water in the Derawan Islands and Maratua Districts and a decrease in the quantity and quality of surface (river) raw water due to environmental pollution, including in Tanjung Batu and Kasai. If we look at the distribution network system, problems are identified in the pipe network which cannot yet reach residential areas as a whole, because Settlements are sporadic and far apart, and there are 3 IPAs that are not functioning, namely in Labuan Cermin, Tanjung Batu and Kasai due to raw water constraints.

Head of Sub-Division of Creative Infrastructure and Settlements, Bappeda, East Kalimantan Province, Alfino Rinaldi Arief, explained that there are several proposed programs/activities to meet Berau Regency's drinking water needs for the next few years, including improving the Sulaiman Bay SPAM in Biduk-Biduk District to serve 2 villages, namely Tanjung Prapat and Harapan Beach; utilizing Labuan Cermin SPAM), PLTS and safety fences; Construction of the Merapun Village SPAM in Kelay District with a capacity of 5 lt/sec.
