Handling Weeds in the Mahakam River

Samarinda, (18/12/2020). In order to handle the accumulation of weed plants in the Mahakam River or what residents usually call napung, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government held a coordination meeting to handle this matter.

Submitted by acting Head of Regional Infrastructure Ibnu Abbas, S.Sos, M.It is feared that the increasingly widespread accumulation of weeds will disrupt the flow of the Mahakam river and transportation routes, because the accumulation of weeds was washed away by the current from the upstream area of the river.

There are 3 weed accumulation points, including those located in Jantur, Rempanga, and Sengkotek (under the Mahulu bridge), the weed rate from Jantur Village to the Mahulu bridge is approximately 10 days, and those that are urgent to be handled are at Sengkotek (under the Mahulu bridge).

BWS Kalimantan III has coordinated with the Sengkotek Village Head and conducted a field visit, it is estimated that the volume of weed that will be transported is approximately 1,000m3. So it is planned to clean/remove weeds and accommodate the weeds in temporary disposal for further transportation to final disposal.
